Final Compilation & Reflecti:
1.Sketch:
The everyday design item we chose is a phone case. Our theme revolves
around the fusion of Nyonya culture and Chinese Minnan culture, so we need
to create relevant patterns on the phone cases. Each pattern carries a
different meaning, and every flower symbolizes a unique significance.

We analyzed the relevant patterns based on the sketches and collected
numerous photos to provide us with inspiration.
This section is organized by me. Based on our design sketches, I identified
the materials needed for our designs and conducted a search and compilation
of these materials. After organizing them, I discussed the list within the
group to add or remove items as necessary.
Buy a utility knife and paint brushes to start cutting and coloring.
- Buy a transparent phone case and use paint to draw patterns on it.
fig2
- Buy acrylic paint and paint on the phone case.
fig3
- Buy glue and use it to seal the phone case when it is finished to ensure long-term use.
fig4
- Buy a hairpin and we will design and create related works on it.
fig5
fig6
- Purchase clay for crafting petals and intricate patterns related to Nyonya flowers.
fig7
- Purchase cream glue for the production of phone cases and to secure hairpins.

FEEDBACK
Week 6 :
Before this consultation, we bought the materials late, so we postponed our consultation, but the professor also gave relevant suggestions. We can't skip the sketch and go directly to the final work, so we made more sketch designs according to the professor's suggestions.
Week 7 :
In the final week, the professor provided feedback on our sketch designs,
suggesting that we had not made enough design changes. He advised us to
redesign based on the original sketches and offered suggestions for our
hairpins. As a result, we came up with two different hairpin styles.
RECEPTION
Experience:
This project was a completely new experience for our group. We chose the
theme ourselves and worked diligently to bring it to fruition. Throughout
the process, we engaged in numerous group discussions and held multiple
meetings with our professor, which not only enhanced our communication
skills but also provided direction for our designs. Despite encountering
various challenges during production, we actively sought solutions and
ultimately created a successful piece of work. Overall, it was an
incredibly rewarding and enjoyable experience.
Observation:
In this project, I observed that while this culture has always existed,
very few people delve deeply into understanding it, and awareness of this
culture is almost non-existent. We showcased Nyonya culture through
everyday designs and conducted field research in Malacca, where we
discovered that many people create accessories related to Nyonya culture.
During our design process, we realized the importance of respecting their
culture and the need for its preservation and transmission.
Discovery:
Looking back at this section, I have learned a lot about Peranakan
culture, including the meanings behind different patterns. I visited
various places and interviewed different people, uncovering many stories
behind the culture. Through this project, I realized that there are many
interesting designs in our daily lives, and we can draw inspiration from
them. I was deeply involved in this task and gained a lot from it.
