1.LECTURE

WEEK 1

LECTURE 1:Typo_0_Introductionion

In this lecture, the professor tells us to use visual adjustments to make visual works, creating letters is the first step, and introduces us to what typography is and its application in daily life.Notice how the letters are combined.

LECTURE 2: Typo_1_Development
  • The Greeks changed the direction of their writing, and the words were read alternately from right to left and from left to right, changing the direction of the font as they changed the direction of the reading.
  • The formation and development of early letters.

  • Hand script from 3rd- 10t century C.E.
WEEK2

LECTURE 3: Typo_3_Text_p1

Kerning: Automatically adjusts space, letter spacing means increased spacing between letters.
Letterspacing: add space between letters.
Tracking: the addition or removal of space in the letter.

The purpose of setting the text type is to facilitate long reading .Proper line spacing is a feature of text.
WEEK 3:

LECTURE 4: Typo_4_Text_part2

What is shown here is line spacing, if the line spacing is 12pt and the paragraph spacing is 12pt, this ensures cross-alignment between the columns of the text.

A widow is a short line of type left alone at the end of a column of text.

An orphan is a short line of type left alone at the start of new column.

  • The only solution to widows is to rebreak your line endings throughout your paragraph so that the last line of any paragraph is notnoticeably short.

  • The A head
  • The B head
  • The C heads

WEEK 4:

LECTURE 5: Typo_2_Basic
  • Baseline The imaginary line the visual base of the letterforms.
  • Median The imaginary line defining the x-height of letterforms.
  • X-height The height in any typeface of the lowercase 'x.
  • Apex/ Vertex The point created by joining two diagonal stems (apex above and vertex below)
  • Ascender The portion of the stem of a lowercase letterform thatprojects above the median.
  • Barb The half-serif finish on some curved stroke.
  • Bracket The transition between the serif and the stem.
  • Cross Bar The horizontal stroke in a letterform that joins two stems together.
  • Descender The portion of the stem of a lowercase letterform thatprojects below the baseline.
  • Ear The stroke extending out from the main stem or body of theletterform.
  • Finial The rounded non-serif terminal to a stroke.

  • Link The stroke that connects the bowl and the ioop of a lowercase.
  • Serif The right-angled or oblique foot at the end of the stroke.
  • Stress The orientation of the letterform, indicated by the thin stroke inround forms.

Typoraphy: Basic/ The font

  • Uppercase Capital letters, including certain accented vowels, the ccedilla and n tilde, and the a/e and o/e ligatures.

  • Lowercase Lowercase letters include the same characters as uppercase
  • Small Capitals
  • Uppercase Numerals
  • Lowercase Numerals
  • Italic
  • Punctuation, miscellaneous characters Although all fonts containstandard punctuation marks, miscellaneous characters can changefrom typeface to typeface. lt's important to be acquainted with all thecharacters available in a typeface before you choose the appropriatetype for a particular job.

WEEK 5:
LECTURE 6 :Type_5_Understanding
In this lecture, Mr. Vinod explains letter form, capital letters, and symmetry.

Mr. Vinod said that the biggest driving force of design is comparison, which is the principle that design should follow.

Task 1:Exercises-Type Expression

Using any of the 10 fonts provided, design and express 4 words of your choice.

Digitisation

Pick the ones you like from the sketches, digitize them, and make changes as
 appropriate.

Figure 1.2 Digital multi-type design

From all the design fonts, I chose my favorite, four words to choose one, and my Ms.Vitiyaa Some suggestions are also given.

FINAL Type Expression

Type Expression Animation

I tried 'fancy' first.

I feel this is a bit simple and give advice that my animation does not reflect the meaning of the words.

I made another one.

I submitted it to my teacher and thought it was perfect.
The word 'bloom' means a flower, so I designed the flower to bloom and there were two butterflies flying around it.

TASK 1:Exercises 2-Formatting Text

Learned how to layout in InDesign to make articles look more comfortable.
"You will be given incremental amounts of text that address different areas within text formatting i.e. type choice, type size, leading, line-length, paragraph spacing, forced-line-break, alignment, kerning, widows and orphans and cross-alignment.  These minor exercises (Formatting Text 1:4 to 4:4A) will increase your familiarity and capability with the appropriate software and develop your knowledge of information hierarchy and spatial arrangement.  The task ends with the submission of one layout in A4 size demonstrating."

3.FEEDBACK

WEEK 1:

Specific Feedback

General Feedback:In this lesson, the Ms.Vitiyaa  took us to understand the rules of this semester, told us how to complete each task, selected 4 words as homework practice words through everyone's participation in the vote, and told us how to complete the electronic portfolio.

WEEK 2:

Specific Feedback:

General Feedback:I sketched four words selected in class and made relevant designs, and provided us with some relevant suggestions so that we could complete them more perfectly. I also checked our learning tasks last week and carried out font design for the next class.

WEEK 3:

Specific Feedback:Ms.Vitiyaa Teach us how to use computer software to make design fonts, and teach us some techniques to design them, and teach us how to design fonts within a fixed framework.

WEEK 4:

Specific Feedback:Tell me that my animation doesn't match the meaning of the words, and give me suggestions for changes.

General Feedback:In this class, we learned how to transform words into animation forms, and the teacher commented on the fonts designed in the last class and gave suggestions to help us better complete the tasks assigned by the teacher and submit relevant practice assignments on facebook.

WEEK 5:
Specific Feedback :Give suggestions on our typesetting and teach us how to use typesetting and composition.

General Feedback :Let us learn the simple operation of Indesign, give us suggestions on our production and the mistakes, tell us how to modify the mistakes, and tell us to complete the final portfolio.

4.REFLECTIONS:

Experience:
In these weeks of learning tasks, I have come into contact with a lot of new things and learned a lot with an open mind. In the homework tasks, I learned how to use illustrator and indesign and other software. In task 1, I learned how to use software to design fonts of different styles, which is not very good, but I will continue to learn and encounter many difficulties in the production process. But also try to find solutions and accumulate more experience.
In typesetting task 1, learn how to use Indesign, learn the basic content of typesetting, and the basic operation of typesetting, and how to read the text more comfortable.

Observations:
In the process of designing fonts, everyone has a different understanding of fonts, and the fonts designed are different.
When practicing typography, we need to correctly adjust the corresponding word spacing and line spacing to prevent the phenomenon of words being single lines.

Findings:
I find that typography is very important in life, and it is used in many places, such as newspapers and magazines, etc. We can use different pictures and different words to create different typography to express different meanings. In these weeks' study, I fully realize the importance of details.

During the "Commercial Art" period he made his way through the industry with plenty of color, puns, and clever ideas.
Many of his designs revolve around typography.

He is good at blending the elements of clean Swiss typography style with pop culture and fine art elements.
Through understanding his works, I know how to design my works and make my content more concise.
